Hope you all enjoyed a relaxing time over Spring Break. I'm sure the kids will be tired Monday and exhausted when Friday rolls around. Oh wait, that's describing how I'll be this week!!!
We begin Unit 5 in Reading Street with the story "Suki's Kimono." We'll be working on synonyms and will be writing about our best friends. Math continues with measurement (length & liquid) and volume. Fossils will be introduced in Science.
I am so impressed with the student's Biography reports and LOVE their Rube Goldberg/Simple Machines project. I'm hoping,(fingers crossed), to have pictures posted this week!
Until next week!

Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202
What a beautiful Sunday! I've enjoyed shopping, working outside and walking my dog Butler. It's tough to come inside and think about school! Yes, teachers like the weekends, too!! Our Reading Street story is another biography called "America's Champion Swimmer: Gertrude Ederle." Last week the students were unable to work on their Biography reports due to firemen visits and working on examples of Reading OAA. I've schedule time to work on the reports this week. Spelling words concentrate on the suffixes -er,
-or, -ess, -ist. We will work on Math OAA and continue with fractions. Enjoy the rest of the day!! Until next week.

Your child will be bringing home study guides, which we will complete in class. In Science we will continue to learn about soil.

Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202
Greetings on this gray and rainy Sunday. I was talking to a friend in Florida and she was rubbing it in that is was about 75 degrees and sunny skies. I don't think she should be my friend anymore!!
Our story for the week is "A Symphony of Whales." It is a story about whales that were stranded in Siberia in the 1980s. I've seen commercials for a new movie with Drew Barrymore about a community saving whales. I wonder if it is the same as our story? Spelling will be words with suffixes and we will begin a new unit about soil in Science. I will be introducing 3 strategies for solving double digit multiplication problems. Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child.

Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202
I hope you enjoyed the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I nursed a cold and am lucky for the extra day of rest. Our Reading Street story this week is an expository text "Seeing Stars." We will work on graphic sources, labels, diagrams, captions, just to name a few. With the shorten week, many students were unable to finish their writing assignment,so we continue with the Indian myths/legends. We will be writing a good lead sentence, learning spelling strategies and writing unforgettable endings. Our Unit 6 Math test is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 17. Third grade combines Unit 7 and Unit 9 in Math so lots of multiplication and division will be up and coming!!!
Until next week!!

Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202
We made it through our first week back from vacation but most importantly..can we make it through 5 days this week!!! Our Reading Street story this week is called "Pushing Up the Sky." It is a play from an Indian myth.I enjoy the story and I hope the students do ,too. The Comprehension Skill is Literary Elements: Character, Setting, and Plot so for our weekly writing, I will give the students another Indian legend to read and complete a writing assignment on the Literary Elements of their myth. I have myths on why the owl has big eyes, how the crow came to be black and why the possum's tail is bare, just to name a few. I love this stuff!! Polygons will still be the focus in Math and we continue to learn about government in Social Studies.
