Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202

I look forward to another exciting week in Room 202! We will not begin a new Reading Street unit so we will not have Spelling, Comprehension, Vocabulary or Word Analysis tests. I do have lots of fun and learning activities based on the book & movie, The Grinch That Stole Christmas.
Our room mom, Mrs. Padilla, has scheduled the Holiday party for Friday Dec. 23, from 1:45-2:45. A note was sent home last week about the gift exchange for the students. If you have any questions please send me an email or give me a call.
I hope you were able to check out the class on Mrs. Walker's Tiger Tales blog. We worked with our Kindergarten Buddies and helped them write letters to Santa. We addressed each envelope and PTA bought us stamps. (Thanks PTA!!) They were dropped off at Macy's, who will donate $1.00 to the Make a Wish Foundation for every letter addressed to Santa. Not only did I love the activity BUT I was so proud that all of the students LOVED it too.
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year!! Thank you for the gift of your child and for your support. I look forward to an even more fun 2012 of Listening, Learning and Laughing in Room 202!
Until next year!!!

Here we come February!!

I can't believe that its February! Guess time flies when you're having fun. This week we are reading the last story of Reading Street Unit 3. It's wonderful to see the growth in students being able to find the correct answers within the text for the weekly comprehension tests. That is a very important skill to learn for the 3rd grade OAA tests. We are focusing on learning how to answer questions in complete sentences and on the clues of what "WH" questions are asking. For example, Why-would be asking us to answer with a reason, When- we would need to answer with a reference of time, just to name a few. We are working on brochures called "Welcome to My Community" in Social Studies. We will displaying them in our hallway within the next week. I am sad to take down the students timelines because they all did such a great job.
